Jonathan Marc “Jonny” Bairstow is an English cricketer, who plays first-class cricket for Yorkshire and England. A right-hand batsman and wicket-keeper he is the second son of former Yorkshire and England wicket-keeper David Bairstow and the half-brother of former Derbyshire player Andrew Bairstow. His maiden Test century came in the first innings of England’s second test at Newlands during their 2015/2016 tour of South Africa, beating his previous best of 95 at Lord’s, also against South Africa.
Bairstow has batted with skill and bravery but his mistakes behind the wickets his missed stumps suggest that he is far from the finished article.
The is was a fairly difficult illustration if only because there aren’t that many decent photos of Barstow around and for some unknown reason (foolishness), I decided to paint solely in acrylic instead of gouache. I have always found acrylics to be a right royal pain, they dry too quick and I don’t always like the patchiness of the colours after it has dried but when you have a tight Christmas deadline the only option is to carry on until the damned thing resembles something, ANYTHING!
