‘England will peak in three years!’ Is the astonishing statement from RFU chief Rob Andrew just a fortnight before the World Cup kicks off, which rather leaves ‘Teflon’ with egg all over his face.
England’s lack of experience could ruin their chances of winning the Rugby World Cup, says Rob Andrew, the RFU’s professional rugby director.
In an astonishing interview a fortnight before England’s opening game against Fiji, Andrew appears to cast doubt on Stuart Lancaster’s team by claiming they may not peak until the next World Cup in 2019.
He said: ‘Is this team going to peak at this World Cup? I don’t know. I doubt it, to be honest. I suspect this team will get better over the next two or three years. I don’t think there’s any question of that, because the age profile and the experience profile is going to grow.
